Fundraising Tips for the Poplar Spring Run!

  • facebook2Personalize your run page! It’s easy to share on social media if you have it personalized and it catches people’s attention better than the generic fundraising page w/no picture, etc.
  • No amount is too small! Some people may be hesitant to donate since they cannot afford much. Encourage those $10 donations – they add up and every little bit helps.
  • Is there a special occasion you can tie in to encourage donations from friends and family – your birthday, an anniversary, your veganiversary, or your first 5K ever? People will often give in honor of a special occasion.
  • Update your fundraising page/remember to reshare on social media like FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. People who thought about donating but haven’t done it yet may need a reminder. Try sharing one of Poplar Spring’s posts highlighting an animal story with a reminder to donate to your fundraising page. Seeing an individual’s story can really help people connect with the cause and donate.
  • Does your workplace match donations to charity? Ask!
  • Doing the 1K walk with a dog rather than the run? Send the appeal from your dog for a fun change of pace that can help boost your donations.
  • Write a meaningful short letter that you use to follow-up with people a month after you sent the request reminding them of needing their help.
  • If you don’t hear back in another few weeks, send another nicely written and polite reminder. Until you hear ‘no’, assume they have just forgotten or procrastinated.
  • If they say they can’t for whatever reason, don’t question it or take it personally.  You can try them again next year!
  • Send each email with the person’s name and personalize if possible.
  • When you get near the goal you set, raise your goal!  People will give more if you are further from your goal!
  • Send a personalized ‘thank you’ email when they donate offering to accompany them for a tour of Poplar Spring to meet the animals!
