Rosie is a six year old Yorkshire pig who was rescued from a pig farm in Virginia. She and three other pigs were being kept in a little dirt lot behind some houses, and were being thrown only old corn cobs to eat. The place was very dirty and full of rats. Rosie had a ring put through her nose so that it would hurt her if she "rooted", and her ring had ripped out, leaving a big tear in her nose. She was very thin and covered with lice. She came to live at Poplar Spring when she was four months old, and now she is an amazing 700 pounds. She is very friendly, like a big dog, and loves to get belly rubs, and be petted and scratched. She enjoys spending time in her mud hole with the 33 other rescued pigs, and loves watermelon most of all. |
